Law enforcement in the Brainerd Lakes Area is on the lookout for a suspect who allegedly fired a gun from a vehicle while chasing a victim.

Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard says the incident happened around 12:20 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in the area of the 22000 block of County Road 4 north of Merrifield, which would be approximately 10 miles north of Brainerd.

Deputies and police from numerous local departments and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the report of an assault involving a firearm, which led to authorities trying to locate the suspect.

Witnesses told authorities that the suspect was driving a black sedand and wearing a handkerchief over their face when they fired from the vehicle while chasing a victim. Sheriff Goddard did not indicate that the victim was struck by gunfire.

The incident is believed to be isolated but Goddard said “public safety is paramount and wants the community to be aware that we are actively investigating this case and any leads we obtain.”

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the sheriff's office by calling 218-829-4749. Additionally, anyone with surveillance cameras in the area of the 22000 block of County Road 4 is asked to review video between 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, May 3.
