Sheriff: Woman dies after getting stuck in vehicle for 36-48 hours
Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who became stuck inside her vehicle on a narrow roadway in Stearns County.
According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, 75-year-old Joyce Barnes, of St. Joseph, was found Sunday afternoon in the front seat of her vehicle that was found stuck on a dirt path in St. Wendel Township, which located west of St. Cloud.
An investigation revealed that Barnes was driving on a dirt road near County Road 4, north of 352nd St., when her attempt to turn around on the narrow road resulted in her vehicle getting stuck at a slant on the side of the road, with the driver-side door pinned shut.
The sheriff's office believes Barnes tried to get out of the vehicle but couldn't open the door and that she had been stuck for 36-48 hours before she was located.
Foul play is not suspected and her body has been transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. A cause of death will be announced at a later stage.
