Shhhh ... Eden Prairie's owl has a name now, but keep it quiet
You'll want to use your inside voice when you meet Eden Prairie's owl.
After all, Whisper the owl lives indoors.
When the injured barred owl arrived at the city's Outdoor Center in December, the folks there got him the best medical care available. But when it became clear that he wouldn't be able to live on his own in the wild again, they decided to keep him at the Center – and asked the public what his name should be.
Nearly 200 people made suggestions and the staff narrowed them down to three finalists: Whisper, Sage, and Star.
Star trailed in the balloting but the competition between Whisper and Sage was close: 43 percent of the votes to 40 percent, the Outdoor Center announced Wednesday.
The staff noted that the name Whisper makes sense because owls are known for being silent in flight.
Plans call for Whisper to be an ambassador. He'll be part of educational presentations about birds and will make appearances at city events.
