Staff and students have been left in shock after a beloved teacher suffered a medical emergency at school, and died later in the hospital.
Carol Lilla – a longtime math and computer science teacher at Tri-City Public Schools serving the areas of Montgomery, Lonsdale and Le Center – fell ill shortly after arriving at Tri-City United High School Friday morning.
She was taken to New Prague Hospital, with school officials later told that she had died.
"We are saddened to share that a dedicated educator, Carol Lilla, had a medical emergency today & sadly has passed away," a statement from the school district said. "She loved being a Teacher & supporting our students."
The school made the decision to go ahead with the TCU Titan football game on Friday evening, with a moment of silence and a staff tribute made in her honor.
The Lonsdale News Review reports that Lilla had been with the TCU district for 40 years this month, having started as a teacher 46 years ago at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic School in Montgomery.
The school provided grief counselors, social workers and psychologists on site to help students and staff process her death, which will continue on Monday.
