Shop at Cub Foods recently? You may have been charged twice

Some Cub Foods customers were charged twice for purchases made last Friday.

WCCO reports it happened Aug. 28, with an unknown number of customers reporting their card balances showed a double charge for their Cub purchase.

The problem seems to have stemmed from an issue with Cub's payment processing company.

Spokesperson Jeff Dudash with the payment processing company, Atlanta-based NCR, told BringMeTheNews it was an "internal technical issue" that disrupted the systems for a few hours. They've taken steps to fix the issue, Dudash said.

In a statement, Supervalu (Cub's parent company) declined to say how many customers were affected, the Star Tribune reports.

It apparently went beyond Cub Foods.

The Consumerist reports a customer at a Chicago Jewel-Osco location was charged twice that Friday – and while a spokesperson won't confirm NCR is their payment processor, she said it affected multiple retailers nationwide.

According to Dudash, most affected customers would have experienced slow processing or had their card denied while checking out. As that happened, some double charges occurred.

NCR is working "proactively" to adjust the mistaken charges, he said, which should be completed in the next few days. But he suggests customers check their card statements. If a double charge hasn't been reversed by next week, contact the retailer.
