Shots fired in Minneapolis neighborhood as agents chase wanted man

Gunfire broke out in a northeast Minneapolis neighborhood Wednesday as federal agents chased – and eventually arrested – a wanted man.

Minneapolis police told FOX 9 agents with the U.S. Marshal's office were serving a warrant for a fugitive named Buck Otto White.

A witness told the Star Tribune he saw a black SUV followed by a dozen or more unmarked vehicles. The witness said the SUV came to a roadblock and he saw plainclothes officers fire at least four shots at it.

The U.S. Attorney's office indicted White last March and charged him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The Justice Department says he is 48, is also known as Timothy Hoffman, and has had a New Ulm address in the past. His criminal history dates back to the 1980's and he was charged under the Armed Career Criminal Act.

The Star Tribune says the most recent warrant for White was issued in July.

Fugitive chases through urban areas that involve gunfire are rare. Last summer Minneapolis police chased a man wanted in connection with a string of carjackings, but he was apprehended with no shots fired.
