Shots fired into north Minneapolis home, 5-year-old girl hit

The shooting happened early Monday morning.

Minneapolis Police are investigating a shooting that injured a 5-year-old girl early Monday morning.

According to MPD, the shooting was reported at 6:36 a.m. in the 2100 block of 4th St. N., with officers arriving at the scene to find the girl suffering from a gunshot wound to her foot.

The 5-year-old was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center for further care.

Preliminary investigation results have led MPD to believe that shots were fired into the rear of the residence, with one round striking the girl.

Officers searched the area but the suspect(s) had fled the scene before they arrived.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

In a separate case, MPD is investigating a fight that led to reports of shots fired around 10:25 p.m. Saturday on the 2800 block of Emerson Ave. S.

Officers canvassed the scene and alerted area hospitals to the situation but no victims were located.

Evidence was found at the scene and processed by the Crime Lab.

No further information is available and no arrests have been made.
