Sioux Falls has 2,000 unfilled jobs – and wants Minnesotans to know

There are 2,322 jobs open in Sioux Falls right now.

But they don't have the people to fill them.

The South Dakota city is trying to lure nearby residents – people in Minnesota and Iowa, for example – out west with the "SiouxFallsHasJobs.com" campaign. And, of course, help boost the area's economic prosperity.

“This effort is long overdue and desperately needed in our community," Mayor Mike Huether said in a city news release. "I’m reminded daily of the thousands of jobs that remain unfilled, which means businesses are leaving opportunity on the table."

A big thrust of the campaign is the website (a screenshot is above), which gets straight to the point: SiouxFallsHasJobs.com. On the page, you can see stats about what types of jobs are available, and search through them.

The part that more directly affects Minnesotans: Billboards.

Large advertisements for the jobs are expected to go up in Minneapolis soon, the Argus Leader reports – an opportunity to woo work-seekers who live just a stone's throw away.

Omaha might also get some. KCCI reports Des Moines is also a possible target. There are a handful inside of South Dakota as well.

There are about 165,000 people in Sioux Falls, and the economy there is in good shape. The unemployment rate in the city, according to recent numbers, is down at 3.5 percent, as of February. Statewide, the number is at 4.1 percent.
