Slain Red Lake officer identified as husband, father-of-four

Police say he was shot while responding to a report of a suicidal male who possibly had children the house.

Red Lake Police Department has identified the officer killed by an armed suspect on Tuesday morning as Ryan Bialke, a six-year veteran of the force.

Bialke, 37, died of gunshot wounds fired by a suspect who was arrested a short time later after he fled into nearby woods.

Bialke had responded to a call of a suicidal male who possibly had children inside a house east of Redby.

According to Red Lake PD, the suspect opened fire on officers when they arrived at the scene, with Bialke struck.

The department says that Bialke is survived by his wife and four children.

The suspect is expected to be charged federally in the coming days.
