Two people are dead after a small plane crashed into a Sauk Rapids house Friday night, according to multiple reports.

Authorities say two people – a pilot and a passenger – were sightseeing in the single engine aircraft when it went down around 8:30 p.m., KSTP reports, starting a fire at the home on the 700 block of Garden Place

According to KARE 11 reports the two occupants in the plane were killed in the crash.

WCCO reports the bodies of both victims were recovered from inside the home. Neither have been identified, and a cause of death hasn't been determined.

The home's owner, Jeff Hille, tells the St. Cloud Times one person, his brother-in-law, was in the house at the time of the crash. Hill says his brother-in-law, Kole Heckendorf, escaped uninjured.

According to the Star Tribune, Hille said Heckendorf was in an upstairs bedroom when he heard an explosion, and jumped from a second-story window to escape. Hille's sister also reportedly lives at the home, but was not there when the crash occurred.

Sauk Rapids Mayor Brad Gunderson tells KSTP the home was engulfed in flames and the area filled with smoke when firefighters arrived. City Administrator Ross Olson provided the station with the photo at right.

WJON radio reports hundreds of onlookers watched as crews arrived and roped off a 10-block area around the burning house.

KSTP says the fire was put out around 10 p.m.

FOX 9 reporter Iris Pérez was on the scene Saturday morning.

Photos of the scene quickly popped up on social media Friday night.
