Small town firefighter to be honored after fatal ATV crash
A man who died in an ATV crash last weekend has been identified as a small town Minnesota firefighter.
Jason Kirchner, 41, of Dalton, was riding an ATV when he was involved in a crash on 275th Avenue near 100th Street in rural Dalton on July 11, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.
"We know when the tones ring- we respond. No matter who, where, or when. Today we responded to a call for one of our own. Please keep our department and Jason’s family in your thoughts and prayers. Rest Easy Brother- we’ve got it from here," Dalton Fire & Rescue posted to Facebook the day of the accident.
The sheriff's office says Kirchner was ejected from the ATV and died at the scene.
Kirchner was the assistant fire chief with the Dalton Fire Department for 18 years, according to FOX 9. The TV station noted that Kirchner leaves behind two children, ages 3 years and 6 months, respectively.
Kirchner will be honored in Dalton July 16 – the day of his funeral – as firefighters from throughout Minnesota drive through the town in succession.
