Snowmobiler arrested after hitting man, critically injuring him on southern Minnesota lake

The 20-year-old snowmobiler hit a 23-year-old man on a lake near Faribault.

A 23-year-old man suffered critical injuries when he was run over by a snowmobiler on a southern Minnesota lake Friday night.

According to the Rice County Sheriff's Office, a 20-year-old snowmobiler was arrested on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation and underage drinking and driving after striking Coy Kreger, of Faribault, on Cannon Lake in Warsaw Township around 8:40 p.m.

Kreger's CaringBridge page says he was launched into the air and landed head first on the ice. Kreger suffered two broken legs, facial fractures and a traumatic brain injury.

First responders were able to get him off the frozen lake via a rescue sled before he was transported to an area hospital and then transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

The snowmobiler is being held in the Rice County jail pending formal charges. Bring Me The News does not typically name suspects until charges are filed.

According to the Star Tribune, the snowmobiler's criminal history includes one underage drinking conviction and five speeding violations.

The incident remains under investigation by the Rice County Sheriff's Office.
