KSTP reports the City Council voted 4-1 in favor of suspending Sean Rifenberick. This follows allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against the chief last summer. In February, a handful of employees told the council Rifenberick was unfit to lead. City leaders agreed to review his performance.

Big Lake officials reach resignation deal with embattled police chief

Sean Rifenberick will receive $160,000 and full retirement benefits. The city isn't giving a reason for the settlement, but the City Council suspended the chief in March after several complaints. Rifenberick was accused of sexual harassment and misconduct last summer.

Son of Rochester police chief sues city, commission members

Jeremy Peterson claims the city broke a long-standing "practice and/or policy" by not allowing him to return to his community service officer position after he didn't complete the requirements of his 12-month probationary period as a police officer, the Post Bulletin reports. He also accuses two members of the Rochester Police Civil Service Commission of violating Minnesota's open meeting law. Peterson is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. He's the son of Police Chief Roger Peterson.

1,500 police expected to attend Lake City officer's funeral

The Post-Bulletin says as many as 2,000 people total are expected to attend what will likely be the largest funeral in the city's history on Saturday. Shawn Schneider was shot in the head while responding to a call about a domestic dispute. Officers are expected to come from all over the Midwest and Canada for the funeral.
