Someone stole an Edina nonprofit's giant inflatable colon

It was taken from the back of a pickup in Kansas City.

A giant, inflatable colon belonging to an Edina nonprofit was stolen ahead of an event in Kansas City this past week.

The colon was being used for an event by Get Your Rear in Gear – Kansas City when it was stolen from the back of a pickup truck.

The inflatable is worth $4,000 and is owned by the Edina-based Colon Cancer Coalition, which ships it across the country to be used for educational purposes.

While they've not been able to get to the bottom of where the 150-pound, 10-foot-long colon has been taken, the unusual theft has sparked an outpouring of support to help replace it.

That's thanks in no small part to a social media campaign around the hashtag #StolenColon that has spread like wildfire on social media and drawn attention from national outlets including, Vice and Forbes.

As of Friday morning, the campaign has raised more than $11,000 to replace the colon more than twice over.

Any additional money raised being used for further screening, education and awareness for colon and rectal cancer, the Colon Cancer Coalition said.
