A bridge along the Soo Line ATV Trail in northern Minnesota has been closed down following a fire early Thursday morning.

Responders arrived at the bridge crossing the Leech Lake River in Federal Dam to find it fully engulfed in flames just after 1 a.m.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office posted a picture of the damaged bridge after the blaze had been extinguished, saying it had "sustained significant damage."

The bridge will remain closed until an investigation has been completed, with the sheriff's office receiving assistance from the State Fire Marshal's office.

No information has been released yet as to the cause of the fire.

The northern Soo Line trail travels 113 miles between Cass Lake to Moose Lake to the southeast.

The bridge in question is located near the northern end of the trail, not far from the northern shores of Leech Lake.

The trail is popular with ATV users in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter, with Trail Link noting it runs through the Hill River and Bowstring State Forests, and the Chippewa National Forest.
