South metro SWAT arrests suspect after standoff in St. Paul garage

The suspect was wanted for criminal sexual conduct.

The Dakota County SWAT Team helped capture a suspect hiding in a garage in St. Paul early Friday morning. 

According to West St. Paul Police Department, St. Paul police asked for help in their attempt to arrest a sexual assault suspect they believed was hiding in a garage on the 1000 block of Humboldt Avenue. 

The incident began around 11 p.m. Thursday with the suspect, who they considered armed and dangerous, refusing to come out of the garage.

The SWAT team used tear gas and was able to find the suspect hiding under insulation in the attic of the garage. 

He was arrested and booked into jail. 

No one was injured during the incident and the road between Bernard and Arion streets has been reopened to the public. 

There is no further threat to the public.
