Sports guy Jeff Dubay bounces back at ESPN 1500
More than four years after drug addiction derailed his Twin Cities sports radio career, Jeff Dubay is back. He's got a new job at 1500 ESPN as co-host with Judd Zulgad 9 a.m. to noon., the station announced Friday.
The 9-to-noon gig is the same time slot Dubay worked with Paul Allen at KFAN before a crack cocaine conviction, MinnPost notes. He was half of the "PA and Dubay" duo from 1998 to 2008. Well wishes from his old pal:
"We know he has great talent. We know he has great equity in the market. We've been meeting to figure out the right timing, and we all believe that Jeff is healthy and ready and the time is right for him to get back into the business that he loves," said Dan Seeman, vice president/market manager for Hubbard Radio.
Since kicking his crack addiction in March 2011, Dubay, 44, has spoken candidly about his struggles, including in interviews with WCCO Radio in July and KARE 11.
Dubay offered a striking new detail last month in an interview with Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine: His wife and brother had an affair and they have a child together.
1500 is still looking for a noon to 1 p.m. host. A full new lineup is tentatively scheduled to take effect on Feb. 11, but the "Judd & Dubay" show will debut next week, the station said.
