St. Cloud State to require face masks for fall semester

Classes will start Aug. 24.

St. Cloud State will require face masks in its buildings this fall to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 as students return to campus.

The school laid out its updated plan to begin resuming in-person instruction on Monday. Face masks will be required for all students, faculty and visitors to campus.

“We believe that Huskies need to take care of each other and this is one way we will do this during the pandemic,” the update reads.

Like many other higher education institutions throughout the country, St. Cloud State is opting to offer classes online, in-person and a combination of the two to help promote social distancing when possible. Facilities will also undergo a new, more rigorous disinfecting process.

St. Cloud State is also adjusting its residential situation, assigning students to single rooms at a price less expensive than a double room, according to a town hall meeting on Monday.

St. Cloud State classes will begin Aug. 24.

The University of Minnesota recently unveiled its plan to safely bring students onto campus. The school will “strongly recommend” face masks but will not require them for those working or studying on campus.

The university will also be implementing new sanitation practices at its facilities.
