St. Louis Park burglary suspect found hiding in garbage can

A neighbor noticed the man in the garbage can.

Police in St. Louis Park took a burglary suspect into custody who was found hiding in a garbage can in an apparent attempt to evade arrest.

According to the St. Louis Park Police Department, officers responded on July 1 to the area of West 18th Street and Maryland Avenue South for a report of a burglary in progress.

The suspect, a man known to the resident, fled before police arrived, which led to a "large police presence" to track the suspect, including police officers and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office K9 unit.

The search caught neighbors' attention and one neighbor saw "a suspicious person hiding in their garbage can."

"Thank you to the many citizens who called in tips about the suspect’s whereabouts which ultimately led to the arrest," police said.

Police arrested the man on probable charges of first-degree burglary.
