St. Paul bicyclist dies after being hit by car in California

The 30-year-old died several days after being struck by a car.

A Minnesota man who was hit by a vehicle while bicycling in California has died. 

Adam Nickelson, 30, of St. Paul, was riding bicycle Jan. 19 in Huntington Beach along Beach Blvd. when he was struck by a vehicle around 11:55 p.m. Huntington Beach Police Department arrived at the scene and found the victim in the roadway, having suffered extensive injuries. 

Nickelson was transported to UCI Medical Center, where he died from his injuries on Jan. 23, according to the Orange County Coroner's Office. 

A 64-year-old Huntington Beach man driving the 2016 Honda Civic involved in the crash stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. 

Nickelson's obituary describes him as follows: 

"Adam was an old soul who was young at heart. He had a passion for film and cinema, reading, writing, gaming and was an avid lover of music, especially the Beatles. Adam was known for his kindness, funny quick wit, free spirit, his mischievous smile and compassion for humankind."

An investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.
