St. Paul police investigating 7th homicide of 2019

A homicide investigation is underway after a body was found in a St. Paul home. 

At 4:50 p.m. Monday, St. Paul police received a 911 call from someone reporting an assault 1700 block of Benson Avenue – in the neighborhood of West 7th Street. 

On arrival, officers found an unresponsive man inside the home, with paramedics declaring him dead at the scene a short time later. 

The victim has been identified as Matthew Richard Schramm, 33 ,of St. Paul, who lived in the house where he was found.

A forensics team processed the scene and an investigation is ongoing, with details about how the man died expected to be released once the details won't compromise the investigation.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on Tuesday, leading police to rule the man's death a homicide. If preliminary autopsy results are confirmed, it will qualify as the seventh homicide in St. Paul this year.
