A traffic stop in St. Paul’s Eastern District led to the seizure of a loaded firearm and multiple arrests.

The St. Paul Police Department released information about a traffic stop on the 1000 block of Beech Avenue Saturday. The stop found a loaded semi-automatic compact gun, which was illegally in the possession of a 32-year-old man, who was arrested.

According to the Pioneer Press, the man had been convicted of driving with a revoked license at least five times. He had also been convicted of three DWIs, domestic assault and illegal drug possession.

Officers also found a high-capacity magazine, bullet-resistant vest, methamphetamines and other drugs and paraphernalia.

A 31-year-old woman was also arrested as part of the traffic stop for an auto theft warrant.

"This type of exceptional police work is just one of the many ways our officers are keeping Saint Paul safe for everyone," St. Paul PD said in a Facebook post.

There were 31 homicides in St. Paul in 2019, the city's highest level since the mid-1990s.
