A two-vehicle accident in New Hampshire killed a St. Paul woman who was on her honeymoon Saturday and left her new husband in serious condition.

Police say 30-year-old Leah Fonda of St. Paul was killed in the crash. The driver of her vehicle, 30-year-old Brian Priess, also of St. Paul, was treated at a nearby hospital, reports the Associated Press, then moved to a hospital in Massachusetts. Police describe his injuries as serious.

WMUR-TV in New Hampshire reports that investigators said a car being driven by Matthew Tsopas, 43, was traveling on Route 4 near Rollingsford, N.H., drifted across the center line and struck Priess' vehicle.

The station also reports that Tsopas fled from the scene of the crash but was found a short time later and taken to a hospital.

He has been charged with negligent homicide, felony driving under the influence of alcohol and felony conduct after an accident, the Associated Press reported Monday.

Fonda's mother-in-law told KSTP-TV the couple was married a week ago and was on a honeymoon. A bridal registry page for the couple lists the wedding date as July 12.

WCVB-TV in Boston says Tsopas was driving a 2008 Infinity G35SX and Preiss and Fonda were in a 2008 Kia Spectra.

WCVB also talked with Chuck Czech, who is Preiss’ uncle, according to the station.

"We had just seen them dance together. We had just seen them pose for pictures together,” Czech tells the station on the phone from Minnesota, and says they were on their way to Niagra Falls.

Czech also tells the station the couple worked at the Mall of America as amusement ride operators, and that Fonda and Preiss had been friends for 12 years before getting married.

“Their love was obvious, the way they looked at each other,” he says. “They truly loved each other. No question about it."
