A bowling alley that has been in St. Peter for almost 60 years was destroyed in a fire Sunday.

The blaze broke out at KingPins, at 1671 S. 3rd St., at around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, prompting a major response from multiple fire departments in the area.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, but the building was a total loss, with a huge smoke plume that could be seen for miles around coming from the building.

The picture above was taken by Rep. Jeff Brand (D-St. Peter), who wrote on Facebook: "So sad to hear the Kingpins in St. Peter has been destroyed by fire just a few minutes ago.

"Thank you to the St Peter and Kasota Fire Departments, State Patrol, St. Peter Police Department, and Nicollet County Sheriff's Department for keeping everyone safe and protecting the surrounding properties."

The bowling alley was originally built in 1962, but only became known as KingPins in 2011. It was previously called Sioux Trail Lanes and Bowlero Lanes.

The alley had 12 lanes as well as a pro shop and a restaurant.
