Organizers of a benefit, fundraiser and celebration of life for slain Mendota Heights police officer Scott Patrick have a simple message; a request, in a way.

"Stand Up For Scott, He Stood Up For You."

The  Stand Up for Scott event, to raise money for Patrick's wife and two daughters, will be held Saturday Sept. 27, from 1-10 p.m. at Moose Country restaurant. There will be live music throughout the day, plus raffles tickets to win a brand new car, an auction and more.

Moose Country owner Joe Schaefer told FOX 9 "the community wanted to do something" for Patrick's family, who are still dealing with the loss of a loved one after he was fatally shot while on duty in West St. Paul July 30.

Patrick's life was also captured recently in a painting, done by St. Paul artist Michael Bellotti, KARE 11 reports.

Bellotti, a former convict who taught himself to paint while serving time in prison, told the station the community has embraced him since his release, and he is always looking for a chance to give back now.

His piece was presented to Patrick's department Thursday, with officers remarking to the station how well it captured their fallen service member's spirit.

The man charged with killing Patrick, Brian Fitch Sr., made a court appearance this week, with his attorney asking the pre-trial phase move quickly. The defense attorney also told news outlets the plan is to plead not guilty; no official plea has yet been entered.

The amount of evidence in the case was described to the Pioneer Press as "voluminous."

Fitch is due in court again Oct. 20.
