The Star Tribune received journalism's highest award Monday, not once but twice.

The Minneapolis newspaper won Pulitzer Prizes for local reporting and for editorial cartoons.

Three reporters - Brad Schrade, Jeremy Olson and Glenn Howatt - were honored for their series of stories on a surge in infant deaths at Minnesota day care centers. Editorial cartoonist Steve Sack, who's been with the paper more than 30 years, also won a Pulitzer.

The Pulitzers are the third and fourth in the Star Tribune's history and the first since 1990, MinnPost reports.

The judges called the reporting on infant deaths a powerful series and noted that it prompted the Legislature to make changes to strengthen the rules governing day care centers. Find the full series here.
