State Fair attendance solid, but no new records

About 117,000 trekked to the Minnesota State Fair on opening day Friday, short of the 2010 record of 132,000, WCCO reports. Saturday's 152,000 was way under the record of 202,000 in 1998. In other fair news, two men are recovering after they were stabbed in the stomach Sunday night.

Nearly 104,000 people came to the “Great Minnesota Get-Together” on its opening day, compared to a record 119,000 in 2010, WCCO reports.

Friday’s attendance was more than 117,000 thanks to decent weather, the station reports. There were a record 132,000 people on the first Friday of the State Fair in 2010.

Saturday’s attendance of 152,000 came up well short of the record 202,000 that was set back in 1998, WCCO says.

In other fair news Monday:

Two men were recovering after being stabbed about 6:15 p.m. Sunday at the fair about a block from the butterfly house, the Pioneer Press reports. The last stabbing at the fair was in 2007, the newspaper reports.

On a far more upbeat note, the Star Tribune has a story about one family living a state fair dream.
