State Fair set another attendance record Monday; fair 3rd hottest

Last week, Minnesota State Fair attendance sagged like a prize pig's belly as the state sweltered through a record stretch of 90-degree days. It was the third-hottest fair ever, the Pioneer Press reported. It was so hot that Tuesday’s attendance, 94,076, was the lowest for any single day in the past six years, the Star Tribune reported.

But the fair finished strong with two attendance records Sunday and Monday, according to new figures.

The fair drew 164,277 visitors Monday – a record for that day. On Sunday, the Great Minnesota Get-Together had 236,197 fair goers – an all-time single biggest day record in the fair's 154-year history.

The total attendance this year: 1,731,162, down from the last two years.

Are you a fair-weather fair goer? The Star Tribune featured a story on one guy who is not – he has been to the event 75 years in a row.

Missing the fair already? Here's one more fix: Among the many fair photo galleries assembled in the last two weeks, this is one of the best, posted today by MPR – kids and their farm animals.

And one last look...29 reasons why the Minnesota fair is the nation's best, from Business Insider.

State Fair attendance solid, but no new records

About 117,000 trekked to the Minnesota State Fair on opening day Friday, short of the 2010 record of 132,000, WCCO reports. Saturday's 152,000 was way under the record of 202,000 in 1998. In other fair news, two men are recovering after they were stabbed in the stomach Sunday night.
