A Maplewood man died Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Cass County, northern Minnesota.

The fatal accident happened in Wabedo Township around 6:30 p.m., with the Minnesota State Patrol among the agencies responding to the scene on Hwy. 84 near Glenmar Drive.

A crash report explains that a Ford F-150 driven by a 70-year-old Big Lake man was southbound on Hwy. 84 when it was sideswiped on a curve by a GMC Sierra that crossed over the center line from the northbound lane.

The Sierra went off the road to the right, overcorrected and crossed back to the left and struck a tree. The driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has been identified as Steven Christopher Shelton, 43, of Maplewood.

The State Patrol reports that alcohol was detected on Shelton and he was not wearing a seat belt.

No injuries were documented for the Big Lake man driving the F-150.
