Two Minnesotans died in automobile accidents Wednesday, with the State Patrol reporting that a 65-year-old man died in Cass County while another fatal crash claimed the life of a 67-year-old woman in Faribault County.
The Cass County accident happened around 7:55 a.m. on Hwy. 6 in Remer Township. The State Patrol says 65-year-old Thomas W. Kleman was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra north on the highway when he left the roadway, entering the west ditch and striking a tree.
Klemen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Around 1:45 p.m., a two-vehicle collision involving a Pontiac Grand Prix and a Kia Optima happened in Faribault County on Hwy. 22 near Minnesota Lake. Per the State Patrol, the Kia was southbound on Hwy. 22 and the Grand Prix was northbound when they collided at 240th St.
A passenger in the Kia, identified as Patricia K. Bathke, 67, of Wells, Minnesota, died at the scene. The driver of the Kia, a 69-year-old Wells man, was transported to a hospital in Mankato with injuries that are not life-threatening.
The only occupant of the Grand Prix was a 62-year-old man from Elmore, Minnesota. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to a hospital in Mankato.
Per the state's traffic safety division, there have been 380 deaths on Minnesota roads in 2020, which exceeds 2019's final tally of 364.
