State Patrol: Fatal head-on crash on snow-covered Highway 212

Roads were covered in snow and ice when two motorists collided in a head-on crash in west-central Minnesota on Sunday morning, according to the State Patrol. 

The fatal crash happened around 6:15 a.m. on Highway 212 near 120th Street, just east of Granite Falls in Renville County. The State Patrol reports that the driver of a Saturn Ion was eastbound on the highway and collided in the westbound lane with a Toyota pickup. 

The driver of the Saturn was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as Karla Rae Fabel, 48, of Belle Plaine. 

A passenger in the car, a 57-year-old Jordan man, suffered injured that are not life-threatening and was taken to Granite Falls Hospital for care. 

The driver of the Toyota pickup, a 35-year-old Shakopee man, was also taken to Granite Falls Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
