The Minnesota State Patrol has identified the person killed in a crash on Hwy. 55 Tuesday evening.

Bruce Elroy Burkowske, 56, of Cokato was traveling east on Hwy. 55 near County Road 50 in Rockford when a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo that was merging after making a left turn made contact with Burkowske's 2015 Jeep Wrangler.

The contact made Burkowske's vehicle roll several times in the westbound lanes before coming to a rest.

Burkowski, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 49-year-old woman from Corcoran driving the Monte Carlo was not injured.

The crash happened just before 5:45 p.m. and both directions of the highway were closed for about two hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
