The man who investigators say fled from a state patrol trooper and crashed his car during the high-speed pursuit, killing a 20-year-old driver, was driving on a suspended license, MPR reports.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, police pulled over a driver of a 1997 Nissan Maxima on suspicion of speeding and drunken driving. But the driver sped off and police started their pursuit, the state patrol says.

Authorities say the chase ended about 1 a.m. when the driver of the Nissan crashed into another car at 4th St. Southeast and Central Ave.

The State Patrol says the driver of the vehicle, Brody Sontona, 20, of Spring Valley, Wis., died in the crash, and his passenger was seriously injured.

The Star Tribune identified the suspect as Yia Her, 34, St. Paul. Police say Her suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The paper also identified Sontana's passenger as Connor Macklin, 24, of Stillwater.

See KARE 11's report on the crash below. The family of Brody Sotona is questioning whether the trooper should have given chase, KARE reports.
