The State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened late Monday night on Interstate 94.

According to a crash report, the driver of a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on I-94 and was rear-ended by the driver of a GMC Yukon. The collision happened near St. Peter St. at approximately 11:20 p.m.

The Yukon was traveling at a "high rate of speed," the State Patrol said, with the Yukon hitting the Accord and then slamming into a median barrier, causing the unbelted driver to be partially ejected.

The Yukon driver died at the scene. He has been identified as Rhonald Timmothy-Pierre Gant, 30, of St. Paul. Alcohol was also a factor in the crash, the State Patrol reported.

The 29-year-old St. Paul woman driving the Accord was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
