A State Patrol vehicle was involved in a crash just north of Hinckley Friday, injuring both the trooper behind the wheel and the driver of the other vehicle.
The incident happened at around 10:40 a.m., near the on and off ramps for northbound 35W at Highway 23 in Sandstone Township, according to the State Patrol's initial incident report.
Around 3:40 p.m., the incident report was updated to include a few details about the crash. A State Trooper driving a State Patrol For Explorer was traveling eastbound on Highway 23, and turned left to get on the 35W northbound ramp.
When they did so, the State Patrol vehicle "collided with" a Ford F-250 pickup. The airbags in the Explorer deployed in the crash.
The report does not say which direction the pickup was traveling, but Google Street View shows the only stop sign at that intersection if for vehicles who have just exited northbound I-35W. There are no stop signs for those traveling east or west on Highway 23.
Behind the wheel of the State Patrol vehicle was 53-year-old Michael Ronald Hagen of Duluth. The driver of the pickup was identified as Ambur Marie Cady, 25, of Hinckley.
Both suffered non-life threatening injuries, were wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck, and were taken to Essentia Sandstone, according to the incident report.
KSTP helicopter footage shows a dark pickup truck with damage to the front grille area, pointing west toward the overpass. And a Minnesota State Patrol SUV with significant front-end damage, pointed sideways across the double-yellow centerline.
Debris litters the ground around the scene.
One Facebook user said traffic on I-35W came to a halt, and said they noticed numerous officers, a fire truck and an ambulance.
