The State Patrol is investigating two fatal crashes that happened on Memorial Day in Minnesota.
At approximately 10:50 a.m. Monday, a Jeep Wrangler was southbound on Hwy. 72 in Waskish Township (Beltrami County) when the driver left the roadway near Sunny Beach Road, causing the vehicle to roll into the ditch.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The driver of the Wrangler, identified as 58-year-old Shaun A. Omalley, of Woodbury, was pronounced dead at the scene. The State Patrol says he was wearing a seatbelt.
The crash happened just east of Upper Red Lake.
A second fatal crash being investigated by the State Patrol happened around 3:20 p.m. southwest of the Twin Cities, in Scott County.
According to the crash report, 75-year-old Francis J. Pivec, of Henderson, was driving westbound on Hwy. 19 east of Nature Center Lane when he went off the road and "down into a ravine not visible from the road."
Pivec was not wearing. a seatbelt and died at the scene, according to the State Patrol.
