A trooper with the Minnesota State Patrol was assaulted by two suspects during a traffic stop on Thursday.
The criminal assault happened Thursday afternoon east of Blue Earth on Interstate 90, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety reports.
The trooper pulled the vehicle over west of Hwy. 254 and during the stop two people in the car attacked the trooper and fled the scene.
The trooper, who has not been identified, was taken to United Hospital in Blue Earth for his injuries and was conscious and stable while en route to the hospital.
Authorities engaged in pursuit of the suspects but eventually called off the chase, but later found their vehicle abandoned in Albert Lea. State troopers and assisting local law enforcement were able to find the suspects and arrest them, although it's unclear where or how they were taken into custody.
“The thoughts and prayers of the entire Minnesota State Patrol are with our trooper tonight,” said Col. Matt Langer, chief of the Minnesota State Patrol. “We want to thank all law enforcement involved in the search for the suspects and are grateful the suspects are in custody and off the streets.”
The incident remains an active investigation.
