Two state troopers put their lives on the line to rescue a suspect who fled in his car only to crash into a partially-frozen river.

The Minnesota State Patrol has revealed that last Thursday, two troopers entered the Blue Earth River in Faribault County fully-clothed and pulled the man from his car.

The incident started after a call from family members who were concerned about the man's well-being, with troopers finding him on Interstate 90 near the Wells exit.

The man fled troopers who tried to stop him, leading them on a three-mile pursuit that ended when he missed a guardrail and plunged into the river.

The state patrol release says:

"The two troopers removed their radios and Tasers and put on their life jackets. They went into the water, broke the driver’s window and helped the driver get out of the nearly submerged vehicle. The water had a two-inch layer of ice the first 20 feet, then open water the remaining 40 feet to the vehicle. The water was four to five feet deep."

The man was pulled to shore and was then taken to the hospital. He is now facing DWI charges.

"We’re proud of the great teamwork by the dispatcher and troopers locating this driver, requesting resources and helping him to safety," the state patrol says.
