Steelworkers reach tentative agreement with AcelorMittal

A tentative agreement has been reached between U.S. Steelworkers and AcelorMittal Saturday, affecting about 300 workers in Virginia, Minn. More than 1,000 workers at United Taconite in Eveleth and Hibbing Taconite agreed to go back to the bargaining table with Cliffs Natural Resources in October.

The Steelworkers union announced a tentative three-year contract with ArcelorMittal Saturday, the Associated Press reports.

MPR News says the deal would cover about 300 workers in Virginia, Minn. and 14,000 nationwide. The tentative contract is subject to ratification by union members.

More than 1,000 workers at United Taconite in Eveleth and Hibbing Taconite agreed to go back to the bargaining table with Cliffs Natural Resources in October. Union workers at Minntac in Mountain Iron and Keetac in Keewatin settled talks with U.S. Steel last weekend.

More than 1,000 United Steelworkers at United Taconite in Eveleth and Hibbing Taconite plan to head back to the bargaining table next month in Duluth, the News Tribune reports. Both sides agreed to a contract extension that would keep the northern Minnesota plants operating after failing to reach a new deal by the Sept. 1 deadline.

U.S. Steel reaches deal with miners at 1 of 3 companies

U.S. Steel Corp. said Sunday it has reached an agreement with the United Steelworkers union at MinnTac in Mountain Iron and KeeTac in Keewatin.
