Most storms petered out over Minnesota, but heavy rain falls in northeast

A line of thunderstorms moved through Minnesota Sunday evening but didn't produce the severe weather that was predicted. But some areas, particularly in northeastern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, have seen heavy downpours.

The storms formed along a cold front that was moving across the region, ushering in cooler and drier conditions for the next several days.

A severe thunderstorm watch that had been issued for a large swath of Minnesota from southwest to northeast was canceled, and only a few counties in the northeast and far southeast (Fillmore, Houston and Mower) remained under a watch.

The storms could bring locally heavy rain, small hail, and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Less humid for Labor Day

Labor Day itself will be a beautiful day. It’s expected to be partly cloudy, less humid and very pleasant with high temperatures around 80.

The rest of the week will be cooler, with highs in the 70s in the beginning of the week and cooler temperatures – highs in the 60s – by the end of the week.
