Have you spotted a Rembrandt at a gas station? A Monet at your local bank?

So far we've had a rare Vermeer painting, a giant head sculpture, and now the Minneapolis Institute of Arts is taking its art to the streets for the latest celebration of its centennial.

If you're out in Minneapolis you'll be able to catch a glimpse of its birthday stunt, as the MIA is placing four high-quality reproductions of the museum's iconic paintings at random spots throughout the city.

To kick off May, super-high resolution images of Rembrandt's "Lucretia", Monet's "Grainstack", Van Gogh's "Olive Trees" and Soutine's "Carcass of Beef" popped-up outside Bobby and Steve's Auto World in downtown, U.S. Bank in Uptown, Minneapolis Central Library, and Kramarczuk's in Northeast respectively.

Halfway through the month, they will pop up again at The Wedge Table, Loring Park, the Stone Arch Bridge, and The Strip Club Meat & Fish.

If you go to view them on a Saturday, the museum will have one of its guides by the paintings between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to talk about the works and answer questions from the public.

"As part of our birthday year we want to bring art to the community in surprising ways," Katie Hill, the museum's audience-engagement specialist, told the Star Tribune.

Mike Esteviz, a service advisor at Bobby and Steve's Auto World, said the picture had drawn a lot of comments from the public, while station clerk Colin O'Donnell told the newspaper: "It's nice to class up the place a bit and to catch people off guard."

The stunt is part of the museum's "52 Surprises" program to mark 100 years in the city.
