Stretch of Highway 36 closed in Lake Elmo after fatal crash

9:10 A.M. UPDATE

The State Patrol has now confirmed that the crash that shut down eastbound Highway 36 near Lake Elmo on Friday morning was fatal. 

Per the crash report, the driver of a Honda Civic was eastbound on Hwy. 36 and struck the back of a semi with a side dump trailer that was stopped northbound in the crossover, with the trailer sticking out into the eastbound lanes of traffic. 

No further information has been released.

A crash Friday morning has temporarily closed a stretch of eastbound Highway 36 in the east metro. 

Details about the crash are limited and the extent of injuries haven't been released, but the crash has closed eastbound Hwy. 36 between Hilton Trail and Keats Avenue North in the Lake Elmo area. 

According to MnDOT, crash investigation work is in progress and will continue until about 10 a.m. The State Patrol reported that two vehicles were involved in the crash. 

No further information has been released.
