Motorists traveling along Interstate 494 in the Twin Cities could face a detour this weekend as the Minnesota Department of Transportation will close the eastbound lanes through Bloomington and Eagan.
The closure will be the same as what was in place last weekend, with the eastbound lanes from Hwy. 5 near MSP Airport to I-35E in Eagan. The detour will guide traffic to southbound Hwy. 77 to northbound I-35E and then back onto I-494.
The ramp from Pilot Knob Rd. to eastbound I-494 will also be closed, in addition to the ramp from eastbound I-494 to southbound I-35E.
It's important to note that the I-494 closure starts at 9 p.m. Friday before reopening by 5 a.m. Monday. The same goes for the ramp from Pilot Knob Rd. to I-494.
The ramp closure from eastbound I-494 to southbound I-35E, however, will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26.
MnDOT adds that residents that live near I-494 between the Minnesota River and the Mississippi River should expect to hear overnight construction noise as crews are removing pavement, setting barriers and paving the road.
Meanwhile, southbound I-694 in the east metro from Hwy. 36 to the Interstate 694/494/94 interchange will be closed Friday night through Monday morning for a resurfacing project.
