Mike Klingensmith, the Star Tribune's chief executive officer and publisher, calls Gov. Mark Dayton's proposed sales tax expansion "jaw-dropping," MinnPost reports. He predicts it could cost the newspaper up to 40 percent of its earnings.
Klingensmith told David Brauer that Dayton's plan “certainly doesn’t look good to give salary increases. We spend our money on newsroom people, and newsprint on ink. We don’t have a lot of discretionary expenses” to cut.
Last week, some business owners praised Dayton's budget proposal for bringing some fairness to the randomness of state tax rules.
