A student has been arrested in connection with the assault of two faculty members at Normandale Community College in Bloomington.

Bloomington Police Department says the 21-year-old man from St. Paul was taken into custody around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

It comes after he hit a woman instructor at the college "several times following an earlier classroom dispute."

A male faculty member then intervened and was also assaulted by the suspect, who then fled the scene.

He was apprehended in the college parking ramp by Bloomington police officers, who found a handgun in his bag.

The woman faculty member was taken to Fairview Southdale with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is being held on probable cause 3rd-degree assault, 5th-degree assault, and possession of a firearm without a permit.
