The warm streak is over.

The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says Friday marked the 1,464th consecutive day, just over 4 years, with high temperatures greater than zero degrees at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Meteorologists say that stretch is coming to an end.

A cool down is expected to begin Saturday afternoon. KARE 11 says the deep freeze really sets in Sunday when morning lows fall to -5 degrees and afternoon highs linger around 3 degrees.

The coldest day of the forecast is Monday. Highs are expected to only reach -2 degrees in the Twin Cities.

KSTP reports wind chills Sunday afternoon will range from -10 to -25 and -30 in the evening. Expect wind chills on Monday to be around -15 as well.

A Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for much of central and northeastern Minnesota for Saturday night through Sunday afternoon. The Duluth News Tribune says highs in the Northland Monday will be a frigid -7 degrees.

The Star Tribune's Paul Douglas predicts the arctic air could be the coldest of the season.

"Two words come to mind. Character-building," Douglas says.
