Suspect arrested in fatal hit-and-run involving Amish buggy
An alleged hit-and-run accident involving a motor vehicle and an Amish buggy resulted in the death of a 21-year-old man who was riding in the buggy.
According to the Fillmore County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened Friday around 3:45 p.m. on County Road 21 in Amherst Township, which is south of Lanesboro in southeast Minnesota.
The buggy was carrying the 21-year-old man, who was transported to a hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he died on Saturday. Two other males were injured: a 19 year old and a 17 year old. Their conditions are unknown.
The sheriff's office identified the driver of the vehicle who hit the buggy as 24-year-old man from Canton, Minnesota. He's accused of fleeing the scene of the crash and abandoning his vehicle in a nearby field.
Officers used the help of a K-9 unit to find Keene. He's was arrested and is being held in the Fillmore County Jail for criminal vehicular operation of a motor vehicle. Formal charges are pending.
