A person suspected of shooting dead a mother and daughter in Minneapolis has been arrested by police.

Minneapolis police says that detectives from the department's weapons and homicide units made the arrest on Monday, along with officers from the 2nd Precinct – which covers Northeast Minneapolis.

It follows the deaths of Eileen Mark, 67, and her 42-year-old Jennifer Angerhofer, of Coon Rapids, at Mark's apartment in the 300 block of 2nd Avenue SE.

Mark lived in a complex for the elderly and disabled, with the mother dying from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Her daughter meanwhile died from gunshot wounds to the neck and face.

Minneapolis Police Department has not released a name or any details about the suspect at this stage, for "investigative purposes."

Jail records however show that he's a 46-year-old man who also lived at the same housing complex as Mark.

He was arrested while on foot in the area of Hennepin Avenue East and University Avenue Northeast. Police said there was no relationship between the suspect and the victims.

A decision on charges is expected to be made by noon Wednesday.
