One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in west-central Minnesota early Tuesday morning.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says deputies received a domestic disturbance call at 5:15 a.m. in Miltona, a small town located about 15 miles north of Alexandria.

At some point during the encounter, a deputy fired their weapon. The suspect was later pronounced dead.

It's not yet clear what led to the deputy opening fire.

The sheriff's release adds that the deputies involved "are not physically injured" and will be placed on standard administrative leave.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is processing the scene and will provide more information to the public at a later date.

The suspect's identity will be released following an autopsy conducted by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.
