Suspect dies after killing K9 and injuring officer in Duluth shootout

A suspect opened fired on police, killing a K9 and injuring another officer.

A police dog was shot and killed and an officer was injured in a shootout with a suspect in Duluth on Sunday night. 

The suspect was found dead at the end of the standoff, which started when Duluth police responded to a report of a domestic assault with a weapon at a home on the 1000 block of West Skyline Parkway at around 6:30 p.m.

At the scene, police negotiated with the suspect for around one hour before the suspect started shooting. 

An officer suffered a gunshot wound and his K-9 partner was hit and killed. The officer was treated at a local hospital and released.

Police returned fire and found the suspect dead when they gained access to the room he was shooting from. 

The police dog killed in the incident has been identified as K-9 Haas. 

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
